Port Campbell - Fine but windy
Spent second night at
Port Campbell as there was much to see and we also needed a little r n r after all the travelling. Port Campbell is a lovely village with a small beach and very central to all the sights. The scenery is fantastic and we were very lucky to have bright sunny weather. The wind has dropped and Port Campbell is in a sheltered valley.
Neil Oliver of TV documentary fame is here at the moment making a documentary on the Great Ocean Road so doubt you will all be seeing his programme on the TV soon. It will give you a much better overall picture of the area than I can possibly hope to do with my little camera. No doubt he will also fill you in on all the history of the area with details of the numerous ship wrecks, the formation of the various limestone rocks, caves etc and heaps of other information. The history here is endless and varied. Many European settlers lost their lives at the end of their long journey from the old country as their ships were wrecked within sight of land. The Bass Straight and Southern Sea are notorious for their storms etc.

The Razorback formation was sensational. It is hard to show how spectacular it is in an ordinary photograph. I hope Neil Oliver shows it from the air. Scenic viewing was available in helicopters who were flying above all the time. The view must have been tremendous!

The Grotto was my personal favourite. The photo below shows the staircase down. It goes right down to sea level and a "grotto" or open-ended cave at the bottom. It was very pretty for want of a better word.

There were so many varied formations. Here are some more.

Blackberries
This was the first time we had seen blackberries growing in the wild here. We picked some and I made an apple & blackberry pie! They were on the side of the road on the way back to Port Campbell!
