Murray Bridge - The wind has dropped this morning and it is warm & sunny but we are scheduled to move on.

Jacqui & Steve are heading straight to Adelaide (Semaphore Beach) and we are going to Murray Bridge to catch up with our son-in-law's mother and grandmother - Barb & Iris.  We will meet Steve & Jacqui tomorrow at Semaphore.

We headed off to Murray Bridge which is located on the Murray River - the main source of water in this area.  We travelled passed many vineyards as we are now approaching the main wine producing area of Adelaide.  The Barossa Valley is not far away.

On arrival, I text Babs (my son-in-law) and told him we had arrived at his home town - MurrayBridge.  I received a message back that I could not leave Murray Bridge without sampling a savoury slice and an iced coffee at McCue's Bakery so we set off to find it.  Both were delicious - I would have liked to have taken one home for him but I doubt it would survive our 3-month journey!  He also said that we must visit the Bunyip??????

Our next assignment was to find The Bunyip...............  It was located in a park next to the Murray River.  The Bunyip is a mythical??? creature that lives in water - according to Aboriginal legend.  Early settlers said that the natives seemed genuinely afraid of it.  The story is shown below.....

The Bunyip
This dreadful-looking monster came up out of the water in his cave with a roar.  Enough to give any child nightmares for weeks!!  (My little grandson, Braxton was frightened of Santa so I hate to think what his reaction to this monster would be!!!)

There are lots of birds around the Murray River
The Murray River is famous for its' houseboats.  Below are just a couple of the ones we saw on the river or moored beside it.  From its source in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales the Murray River flows 2520km to the Southern Ocean in South Australia being one of the longest rivers in the world.

We stayed at Avoca Dell at a caravan park right beside the river.  It was a very quiet & pleasant location.  Avoca Dell is located 5 mins drive from the centre of Murray Bridge on the other side of the river

In the evening we went out to dinner with Barb & Iris.  We had a delicious meal at a restaurant on the river.  It was great to catch up with them and exchange news. Both are excellent company and we spent a very pleasant evening with them with lots of laughs.
