Parry Beach to Margaret River -  It was a very cold night - temps down to 9C and only 15C this morning!!!!!  Cloudy changed to showers & then changed to rain!  18C high.  Brrrr!!

We made an early start because it was so cold - no point in hanging around.  We stopped for morning tea at Walpole (at 8.30am!!!!).  Good cup of coffee but a dried up, non-descript slice and even that was ages coming because the girl forgot about it!

Another town we passed through was Pemberton - a vine growing area.

We saw lots more "up" villages ie villages on the map with names that ended in "up" - will find out what that signifies - Nannup, Nornalup, Owingup to name a few.

The journey continued through open countryside which later changed to forests of very tall and very straight trees.  The timber industry is big in this area. We passed Gloucester National Park - a thickly forested area.

Very tall, straight Forest of jarrah?
There are giant karri & jarrah trees - one is a 600 yr old tree called King Jarrah.  Also a 51m high fire-lookout tree - Manjimups Diamond Tree which has a spiral of thin steel pegs to a swaying canopy tower.  There is another called Gloucester Tree.

We had planned to stay at a beach close to Margaret River - Prevelly Beach but the Margaret River Pro-Am surf carnival was being held there and it was all booked out so we stayed at Margaret River instead.

Prevelly Beach
(Preparations for the Surf Carnival -
hope the weather improves for them)
