Broome - Very hot and humid again. It's official - the hottest April in Broome on record!  36C

Early morning walk along Cable Beach.  Back for brekky and then headed into Broome to tour the weekend market.  Lots of pearls everywhere - well, what do you expect in a town which was built on a pearling history.

Broome Markets

In the afternoon we were invited over to catch up with Sean & Kirsty.  It was great to see Sean again after such a long time.  When we arrived he & a mate had been out crabbing and were cooking the crabs over an outdoor fire the same way the local aboriginies prepare them.  We were lucky enough to be given some to take home with us.

Their home was also furnished with some of Sean's unique handmade furniture which gave it a special feel.  Lots of mature tropical plants surround the house especially around the patio area.  Their 3 dogs also made us feel very welcome!

A BIT OF BROOME'S HISTORY

Hard to read so the gist of it is below.....

Edwin William Streeter, the British jeweller and pearler was the first to see the potential of Broome.  He set up the first venture, clearing mangroves and building a jetty to service his pearling fleet.  There followed a general store, butcher, pub etc at Roebuck Bay.
