Geraldton - Hot and sunny with an odd cloud or two but windy again.  Temp 29C

We had a another look around the city today.  Geraldton is a pleasant town - quite big and right on the coast.  Luckily Terry's driving licence arrived yesterday at the local post office - sent on by Sheila.  We had not realised that both our driving licences would need renewing while we were away.  I'm still waiting for mine to be issued.

The HMAS Sydney II was sunk off the coast near here during the second World War in 1941.  There was a battle between the HMAS Sydney and the German ship HSK Kormoran and both were sunk.  The Sydney went down with all 645 servicemen. (See notices from the Memorial). The wreckage was not found until 2008 and was a mystery for many years.  The wreck was found in 2468m of water.

The wreckage of the HMAS Sydney was only found in 2008.  The statue to the woman looks exactly to the spot where it was found.

After we had explored the town, we moved on to Macca's (McDonalds) for a well-deserved 30cent icecream cone!  Yummy!
