Broome -    Hot, sunny and high humidity                Temp 35C

Early mornng walk and swim.  Then into town to explore Broome.  Broome is a very informal, casual, laid-back, tropical town.  There are a couple of shopping centres but most of the town consists of small privately owned shops.  Broome was originally establised as a pearling town with high quality pearls which were sent all over the world - particularly to London.  Many races worked as divers collecting pearls but the Japanese were generally regarded as the better divers who were prepared to dive deeper than most.

Frangipani is the perfume of Broome.  They are everywhere and flourish in this climate.  There is a whole street of them where I took the picture below.

We went for coffee at Ra Ra's, a popular cafe in the centre of Broome.  Ra Ra's belongs to friends of ours - Sean & Kirsty.  We have known Sean for many years but only met Kirsty for the first time today.  They also do catering for functions such as weddings etc.  Sean is very talented at making unique furniture from interesting pieces of timber that he finds around or is given.  Most of the furniture in the cafe was made by Sean.

There is also an historic garden cinema in Broome.  It is the oldest working cinema of its kind in the world.
